Research interests:
My research lies at the intersection of morphology, computational modeling and psycholinguistics. In particular, I'm interested in questions related to morphological theories, category learning, computational models of language learning, complexity metrics for linguistic patterns, lexical storage and organization.
Current Research Projects
- Concept Lab
I am part of a research group with colleagues from UNC (Elliiott Moreton) and UMass (Joe Pater, Lisa Sanders, Brandon Prickett, Chris Whilte) on linguistic categorization and concept learning. We investigate to what extent known cognitive biases identified by psychologists can be found in linguistic patterns, and what are the differences in categorization learning between linguistic and non-linguistic patterns.
Here is some recent work done in this lab (for a more comprehensive list, consult my CV).- Is there a base-rate neglect in linguistic category-learning? (slides from a P-side presentation at UNC)
-
Implicit and explicit processes in phonological concept learning. (preprint of the article) to appear in
Phonology 2024. -
Learning repetition, but not syllable reversal. (conference paper)
in Supplemental Proceedings of the 2020 Annual Meeting on Phonology.
- Defectivess
- Learning of Minority Defaults
- Pronominal Typology
- Chatino Morphology
